Stand-Up Poetry, Music & Cartoons to help fight eco crime

THE Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) & ROAR Collective present ROAR! Imagine a Tiger, a fundraising extravaganza starring poet/musician John Hegley and acclaimed cartoonist Tony Husband, creator of Private Eye’s Yobs.

ROAR! Imagine a Tiger will take place at Islington’s Screen on the Green cinema, 83 Upper Street, London N1, at 8pm (show starts at 8.30pm) on Monday, November 29, 2010.

The event also features poet and DJ Charlie Dark, spoken word poet Polarbear, poet and comedienne Liz Bentley, Israeli singer/guitarist Hadar Manor, singer/songwriter Sean Taylor, poet Daniel Cockrill and the band Howls.

To buy a ticket, visit http://www.justgiving.com/roarcollective and make a £15 donation (£18 on the door).

All proceeds go to the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), a London-based campaigning charity which investigates a wide range of environmental crime and is at the forefront of international efforts to save wild tigers.

It may currently be the Chinese Year of the Tiger, but as few as 3,200 of the magnificent creatures survive in the wild and the EIA works tirelessly to expose the illegal trade networks and eco-criminals threatening the tiger with extinction.

Debbie Banks, EIA’s Tiger Team Leader, said: “Saving the wild tiger is not rocket science; populations can recover if given protection from poachers and if given enough prey, water and forest to breed and disperse without coming into conflict with people and livestock.

“If governments were truly committed to saving the wild tiger, they would do everything they can to stop demand and give the wild tiger the breathing space it needs to recover. After all, if we can’t save the tiger, what can we save?”

Interviews are available on request: please contact EIA Tiger Team Leader Debbie Banks, at debbiebanks@eia-international.org or telephone 0207 354 7960.
