EIA at the United Nations Climate Change Conference – CoP28

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), signed in 1992, is a global treaty with the goal of “stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system”. It provides a framework for other agreements and policies, such as the 2015 Paris Agreement, a legally binding agreement international UN treaty which established the overarching goal to limit global average temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

In 2021, countries adopted the Glasgow Climate Pact, which aims to “turn the 2020s into a decade of climate action and support”.

The 28th Conference of the Parties (CoP28) takes place in Dubai, UAE, from 30 November – 12 December 2023.
