An investigation into Japan’s Dall’s porpoise hunt, the largest cetacean kill in the world.
At least 18,000 Dall’s porpoises are killed in Japan’s coastal waters every year and new evidence has found an increasing proportion of them are mature, lactating females – an indication of severe overhunting.
This report urges the Government of Japan to immediately suspend the Dall’s hunt off Hokkaido and take urgent steps to reduce its overall catch to well below 10,000 porpoises.
