In line with the Montreal Protocol, India has announced that its chemical industry, with immediate effect, must collect and destroy emissions of its most potent greenhouse gas, hydrofluorocarbon-23 (HFC-23). This is estimated to prevent nearly half a billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over 15 years.
