A briefing identifying gaps and other issues in existing  frameworks addressing plastics and plastic pollution and making the case for the need for a new global architecture fit for purpose to address plastics and plastic pollution.

More than 335 million tonnes of plastic are produced every year — more than eight million tonnes of it entering the oceans — and rising production trends make it evident is clear that to prevent marine and other plastic pollution, a new global Convention on Plastic Pollution is required with a mandate to manage the lifecycle of plastics, including production.
