Our investigations

Since our formation in 1984, EIA has pioneered the use of undercover investigations as a vital means to combat environmental crime and abuse.

Our innovative approach aims to secure long-lasting change by using intelligence analysis and investigations to disrupt the activities of criminal networks, drive policy reform and highlight the absence of effective laws that have negative environmental impacts.

Information obtained through our work is used to campaign for the adoption of more robust legislation and enforcement measures by providing governments and decision-makers with hard-hitting evidence.

Where we work

Through close collaboration with key partners, we have conducted investigations into a range of environmental crimes. These include the illegal trade of elephant ivory, pangolin scales and tiger parts, the illicit trade of ozone-depleting gases, timber trafficking and unlawful logging across multiple countries and regions.
