Early action to be rid of HFCs & greenhouse gases is vital
EIA’s Climate Campaign has released a new report, Pathway to Adoption of a Global HFC Phase-Down in 2016, to the 37th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of Parties to the Montreal Protocol, taking place this week in Geneva, Switzerland.
.Fifteen of the 16 hottest years since records began have occurred since 2001, and January and February 2016 have already set new records. In December 2015, at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 195 countries agreed to limit warming this century to well below 2°C and drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5°C in order to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
Early and enhanced action on non-CO2 gases, including rapid action to address hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs, widely used in refrigeration and air-conditioning), is critical.
