The member countries of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) have agreed to list Siam Rosewood on Appendix II, granting international protection to this threatened species. This will help protect Siam Rosewood in range states and will serve as a legal tool to combat smuggling in China.
Countries with operations farming tigers and other Asian big cats must shut them down and destroy stockpiled body parts and derivatives – and China, which has the greatest number of tiger farms, must end its domestic trade in tiger and leopard skins as an indication of genuine commitment to ending the tiger trade
EIA welcomes the news that INTERPOL, an international police organisation, has joined the fight to end the tiger trade. An international law enforcement operation coordinated by INTERPOL has led to the arrest of 25 individuals suspected of taking part in the illicit trade of one of the world’s most endangered species
