Iceland’s internationally condemned minke whale hunting industry has shut down, citing rising costs after just six whales were slaughtered in June and none in July, traditionally the peak time for hunting. Iceland operates in open defiance of an international ban on commercial whaling which was imposed in 1986
The European Commission is tackling plastic pollution with new laws to reduce throwaway single-use plastics. The proposal sets a number of different policy measures to tackle these problematic single-use products, from bans and reduction efforts to labelling and extended producer responsibility schemes
The cosmetics industry has submitted a statement to the European Commission objecting to the scope of the UK Government's plan to introduce a legislative ban on plastic microbeads. As a member of the Microbeads Coalition we object to limiting the ban since damaging microplastics would continue to flow into the sea.
