EIA in the UK now operates as a single entity charity

We are pleased to announce that EIA in the UK now operates as a single entity charity, EIA UK.

Following a review of our structure and taking into account recent regulatory changes, the directors of EIA UK and trustees of EIA Trust agreed that our dual structure no longer best supported the vital work done from our UK headquarters.

The not-for-profit operating company EIA UK was registered as a charity on 26 February 2019. The trustees of EIA Trust will transfer its assets by deed to EIA UK and wind up the Trust.

We are very pleased that three of the trustees – James Arrandale, Jenine Langrish and Kit Stoner – have joined Malcolm Gaskin, Ian Grattidge, Jennifer Lonsdale and Allan Thornton as members of the EIA UK Board of Trustees. Ian is the Chair of the new Board, which has a broad range of skills and experience to enhance the stewardship of the organisation.

The benefits of operating as a single entity charity include enabling supporters of EIA UK to Gift Aid donations, providing valuable additional income for our work. In addition, our administrative and reporting systems will be simplified.

Founded in 1984, we have remained true to our founders’ initial approach and principles – we pioneered the use of covert recording equipment to capture first-hand evidence and today remain at the forefront of campaigning organisations using it as a tool to document the facts and drive change.

And by choosing to remain a nimble and responsive small organisation, we retain the freedom to voice concerns that larger groups feel unable to raise and to mobilise quickly in response to emerging issues.

Jennifer Lonsdale, Director and Co-Founder, said: “We are so proud of the work of EIA and its dedicated team of campaigners, investigators, support staff and volunteers. It is an amazing, unique organisation and is making a real difference.

“We could not do this work without the support of our grant-makers, donors and supporters – every single donation is appreciated and all funds help us to achieve our goals.

“Our work demonstrates that it is possible to bring about positive changes to benefit species, ecosystems and people for generations to come and our new structure will help us to achieve even more.”

Our loyal supporters plus the bravery and tenacity of our investigators and campaigners have made us a formidable force for wildlife criminals to reckon with – and our new, improved structure will allow us to continue to remain so in the future.
